  1. This is a very embarrassing description of what I did to convert the type 3
  2. fonts to type 1 fonts. There is probably a better way. This is how I did
  3. it: First, I grabbed a random type 3 font from one of the archives. (The
  4. one I used is called Thomas. I'll use that name for definiteness.)I started
  5. by using a text editor to copy the Postscript comments from the Thomas font
  6. into the cm font, changing the name appropriately. I made a copy of the
  7. Thomas bitmap, then opened it with ResEdit. In ResEdit I used "Open using
  8. hex editor" on the FOND. About half way down I found the word "Thomas". I
  9. replaced this with the name of the font I wanted, noting that the digit
  10. before the T had to be the number of letters in the name and also that the
  11. space afterward was padded with zeros. I then used ResEdit to open the text
  12. file containing the font I wanted to convert. I copied the two POST
  13. resources from the Thoma laserwriter font into my font. I also changed the
  14. type and creator to be LWFN and LWRT, respectively. At this point I quit
  15. ResEdit.I then used the Laserwriter Utility to download my font into the
  16. printer. At this point Metamorphosis was happy to convert my type 3 font
  17. into a type 1 font that I could open with Fontographer.
